Reflections of Water and Air

This is the first time I've done something like this. I've done several mono-type challenges before, but there was a couple differences. I chose which Pokemon I wanted ahead of time, and used secondary types to cover any weaknesses and ensure a diverse range of attacks.

Getting a few select Pokemon at random, doesn't give that flexibility. Especially since I was further restricted by the types that I could use as a secondary type. Plus not getting something that would work after several rounds of wonder trading did lead me to give up trying to find something that could work. In the end, both teams ended up working out.

Most of the journey was certainly easier for the Air Nomad Team, because of the raw power of Alakazam, Gardevoir, and Hypno early on. Misdreavus' immunity's also were very helpful. Fairy always managed to come in handy too and once Floette and Clefairy learned decent moves, they could move through just about anything. The diversity of moves available to Clefairy also helped cover various types. The Elite Four was a bit of a challenge, because aside from Hala, I didn't really have an advantage over anything, and everything except Toucannon was weak to Kukui's Incineroar.

On the flip side, the Water Tribe team had a little bit harder time. The only Pokemon that wasn't water or grass were Vanilluxe and Ariados. The overall high special attack from most of them allowed me to blast through most opponents. Oddly though, the Elite Four was much easier since I was able to exploit the low special defense of most of their Pokemon. Much like the last couple of run throughs, I came to love the Vanilite line. When first released in Generation V, I like many others thought it was just stupid and lazy. Throughout this play through, I've come to love it. Unlike many evolutionary lines, I think each stage is absolutely adorable.

I found new ways to approach old challenges, challenges I was able to find weaknesses for in other play through. That's not something I always had available in these runs, and are challenges I look forward to dealing with in my next couple of games, Pokemon X and Pokemon Omega Ruby. I will see you with Kyoshi in Kalos and Roku in Hoenn!

The Water Tribe

Tsareena is named after Princess Yue (who turned into the moon) because the name of Tsareena is based on a Russian queen. Ariados is named after Sokka, because neither of them can control water. Phione and Staryu are named after Katara and Kya (mother and daughter) because they both have similar move sets, as if they were mother and daughter. Vaporeon is named after Naga because they are both dog-like animals. Vanilluxe is named after Sokka and Katara's father who was the chief of the Southern Water Tribe during The Last Airbender, and all HAIL the chief! Yes, I named him that for nothing more than a bad joke. Ludiocolo is a water plant thing, and the swamp bender Huu made a swamp monster out of water plants. And Sawsbuck is Foo Foo Cuddly Poops because Sokka named him, and he's the closest thing I'll ever get to a giant moose lion.

The Air Nomads

With these games finally over, it is time for the final line up to be announced. We have the monk-like Air Nomads, led by their Avatar, Aang!

Meduka, Fairy of the Stars

Most of them are named for Nomad characters from the shows. The names match the genders of the characters. Tenzin is of course Aang's sun, plus he makes the same face as Toucannon does sometimes. Alakazam is named after Monk Gyatso becasue they both have epic mustaches. Hypno is named after the Guru who helped Aang unlock his chakras. Gardevoir and Florges are named after Tenzin's two daughters. Mismagius is named after Tenzin's son Meelo because they are both trouble makers. Braviary is named after Appa because they both fly and you can ride them. Appa also just deserved a spot of his own. Ribombee is named after the leader of the nomads who go with Team Avatar through the Cave of Two Lovers and he's one of the best single episode characters. And finally, Clefable is named Meduka because that's a nickname it came with as a Cleffa and I really like it. Closest I could find is it seems to be named after an anime.

Avatar Korra

Now, it's Korra's turn to face the Elite Four and try to claim the title of Champion!

Next up, is Olivia, the Elite Four's Rock type Master!

Only Vanilluxe has any weakness to her team, and by simply using Tsareena and Vaporeon
I got around that little hiccup.

Next is Acerola, the Ghost Princess!

She was brought down by Vaporeon (again), Staryu and Vanilluxe.

And last but not least, the wandering Flying-type Master who has returned to her nest, Kahili!

She was brought down by the combined efforts of Vanilluxe and Staryu.

Finally, we enter that Champion's Chamber, and sit on the throne waiting just for us. We barely sit down when our first challenger approaches...

Dun dun dun!

This battle, like the one against Kukui, was kept simple and I just played the type advantages and beat him with a combination of Tsareena, Vaporeon, Sawsbuck, and Vanilluxe.

With this, Korra is crowned Champion and becomes a full powered Avatar!
